Bratwurst With Chunky Tomato And Sage Sauce

A sausages dressed with chunky tomato and sage sauce.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 15 ml/1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 400 g/14 ounces/1 large can of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 large garlic clove, crushed
  • 5 ml/1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 2.5 ml/ 1/2 teaspoon made german mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 5 ml/1 teaspoon light brown sugar
  • 450 g/1 1b bratwurst
  • Crusty bread, to serve

Directions

  1. 1. Put the onion and oil in a saucepan and cook, stirring, over a fairly high heat for 2 minutes to soften.
  2. 2. Add the tomatoes, garlic, sage, mustard, a little salt and pepper and the sugar. Bring to the boil and cook for 5 minutes, stirring until pulpy.
  3. 3. Preheat the grill (broiler). Put the bratwurst on foil on a grill rack. Brush with a little of the tomato mixture.
  4. 4. Grill (broil) for 15 minutes, turning and brushing with the sauce mixture until golden and cooked through.
  5. 5. Heat the remaining sauce until bubbling again. Serve with the sausages with lots of crusty bread.
