Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 cup salad oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup cold water

Directions

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl combine the sugar, dry mustard, salt, cayenne pepper, oil, vinegar and egg; do not stir. Reserve until needed.
  2. 2. In a sauce pot combine cornstarch and cold water, stir until thoroughly mixed. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and becomes clear.
  3. 3. Remove from heat and continue stirring for about three minutes. Pour hot mixture into ingredients in bowl and beat vigorously with a rotary beater until smooth.
  4. 4. Chill until ready to serve.
