2/3 cup warm water (about 110 degrees F)
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 package active dry yeast
1 tablespoon cornmeal

  <preparation-steps>Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Put the first six ingredients in the bread machine pan. Select dough cycle and start.
 
Deflate the dough and turn it to a lightly floured surface. Place it seam side down on a cutting board sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and let rise, until doubled (about 40 minutes). 

Beat the egg and water in a separate bowl and brush the loaf with the egg mixture. Make a single long and quick cut at the center of the loaf with a sharp knife. 

Place the loaf on a sheet pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes (oven times will vary).</preparation-steps>
