In Tamil, using the word rasam alone refers to the preparation of tomato juice with tamarind and added spices. Malnad style refers to how it is prepared in that region of India which covers the western and eastern slopes of the Western Ghats.

Very nice rasam recipe. The tomato adds to the nice tanginess and spices such as garlic gives this recipe a strong flavor. I would use just 1/2 tablespoon tamarind pulp here.

This rasam recipe is truly amazing! Thanks for sharing. I am a big fan of some spicy rasam and rice.
