In Germany's version of macaroni and cheese; spaetzle noodles are livened up with sauteed onions, cheese and dry mustard to produce a full flavored casserole dinner.
 

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 onions, sliced in small rings
  • 3 ounces emmenthaler cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 cups spaetzle noodles, cooked
  • 2 tablespoons chives chopped

Directions

  1. 1. Heat the butter in a fry pan over medium low heat; add onions and brown lightly.
  2. 2. Toss the cheese with the dry mustard.
  3. 3. Add the cooked noodles and the cheese to the cooked onions; mix well. Transfer the mixture into a casserole dish.
  4. 4. Bake at 300 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
  5. 5. Sprinkle with chopped chives before serving.
