Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons anise seed

Directions

  1. 1. Heat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. 2. Beat sugar and eggs with electric mixer on medium speed about five minutes or until thick and lemon colored. Stir in flour and anise seed.
  3. 3. Roll half of the dough at a time, 1/4 inch thick, on a floured surface.
  4. 4. Coat your springerle rolling pin well with flour and roll it once over the dough to imprint the designs.
  5. 5. Cut out the cookies around the designs and place one inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. 6. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
